Greetings Fellow Lions!
I hope that you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the coming holiday season.
District–F is still having a great year. I installed two new members at the Clinton Club and one new member at the Vass Lions Club. Both had approved other new members who could not be at the meeting.
We are at 34.8% in White Cane toward the December total of 40%, so let us get in those payments before December 30.
Congratulations to DG-Elect Denning Buchter, 1st VDG-Elect Randy Kirby, and 2nd VDG-Elect Vince Schimmoller for their elections at Mid-Winter. District 31-F is in good hands for years to come.
I appreciate all who attended this year’s Mid-Winter. You who were unable to attend missed good fellowship and fun with the Lions of 31-F. Hope to see you next year.
December 2 is charter night for the new Broadway Lions Club and the celebration of a new club in the district. We are growing stronger as we approach the half-way point of this Lions year. Let us continue to help those who are less fortunate than us during this coming holiday season and get ready to make the second half of the year one to be remember. While at the Vass Lions Club meeting, I learned that they are getting ready to pass out about 250 food baskets to the needy. This is such a great way to show the spirit of giving. If you have watched Lion President Sid’s video, you know that he states that delivering a food basket to one needy family is when he realized that great feeling of being a Lion and he real meaning of “We Serve.” Let us all try to remember that feeling of serving this year and be someone’s “Beacon of Hope.” I could go on about what all the Lions in our district are doing but I am asking that club secretaries submit a short article about what their club did during this season for the January newsletter.
The next 31-F cabinet meeting will be February 5 at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville at 10:30 a.m. Afterward, there will be a working lunch for those that are on the 2011 State Convention committee. PCC Brad will have more information about this in the January newsletter. The following weekend is the NCLF meeting at the Bordeaux.
The Governors of MD31 will be having an auction to raise money for White Cane and other NCLF projects in April. This will be a statewide auction and we are asking for donations of items from all across the state. At this time, we have items ranging from golf carts to NASCAR tickets. We are using NCLF 501c3 so that any items donated are tax deductible. Let’s go out and find items to donate for this great cause. As Governors, we are donating our time and energy to make this an event that could bring in a great deal of money for those that we serve. Call me if you have something to donate or know of some business that will donate to this cause and I will get the paperwork to them.
Now for a personal note, I have decided to run for 2nd Vice President of NCLF for the year 2011-2012 and ask for the support of the Lions and Clubs in 31-F.
Lion Cathey and I wish all the Lions a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Remember to wear your pin, shirt, or hat when you leave the house.
Have a safe, but wonderful, holiday season!
Yours in Service,
District Governor Jerry Lee Thomas
